The top Dublin tourist attraction this summer is the Guinness Storehouse 250 Summer Festival. Be sure to include this special event if you’re planning a vacation to Ireland during June, July or August.
The celebration marks the company’s 250th anniversary. Arthur Guinness set off for Dublin from his family’s brewery near Celbridge, County Kildare in 1759. He leased a small brewery at St. James’s Gate on December 31, 1759 for 9,000 years for an annual rent of £45 and began brewing the now famous beer.
The summer festival starts on June 1st and runs through August 30; festival events are scheduled daily:
- Mondays, 11 am - Head Chef Justin O’Connor will entertain you with a Guinness and food demonstration;
- Tuesdays, 11 am - the company archivist will present the “Top 10 Golden Moments of Guinness History;”
- Wednesdays, 11 am - treat your taste buds with a go at the Guinness Variant Tasting and Perfect Pint experience;
- Thursdays, 11 am - enjoy a guided tour of 80 years of Guinness advertising;
- Fridays, 11 am - finish the “work week” with a special guided tour of Guinness 250;
- Saturdays, 1 pm - join in the fun at a Céilí Mór (a traditional Irish social dance);
- Sundays, 1 pm - savor your favorite Guinness while enjoying traditional Irish music.
Admission to all festival events is included for visitors to the Guinness Storehouse. Advance reservations are not required, but space is limited and available only on a first come, first served basis.
